By Lauren Vork, eHow Contributing Writer Meditation has many uses for spiritual development, including the opening and strengthening of the seven chakra energy centers. One of these centers, the third eye chakra, is associated with extra-sensory perceptions like telepathy and intuition. Developing the openness of the third-eye chakra through meditation is an excellent way to get in better touch with your psychic abilities. Obtaining a Trance Before doing any meditation to develop your third eye, you must be able to achieve a basic trance. Practice regular meditation in a quiet space (you may try some soft music if that helps you). Sit or lie in a comfortable position, breathe slowly and deeply, and try to relax every muscle in your body. Try to go more deeply into your subconscious by quieting your conscious mind. Practice daily to improve this ability. Discovering Your Chakras Once you're used to meditating, it's time to start becoming aware of your chakra energy. The third eye is one of seven chakra energy centers, but you'll get your best results with this one if you work on all the main chakras. The seven main energy centers are located at different points through the center of your body and are associated with different colors. They are: the "base" chakra (red) located at the very base of your spine or tailbone; the "stomach" chakra (orange) located at your naval or belly button; the "solar" chakra (yellow) just beneath your sternum; the "heart" (green) at the center of your rib cage; the "throat" (blue) at the center of the neck; the "brow" or "third eye" (indigo) at the center of the forehead; and the "crown" chakra (white or violet) just above the head. To open your chakras, visualize them one at a time as spheres of the appropriately colored light in the right location inside your body. You should have a sense of each sphere taking time to form. Some may take more time than others, so be patient. Once you've attended to all your other chakras, you can spend some time focusing on your third eye. Think of sending spiritual energy to that area. Keep practicing this until you start to feel an increased sense of openness. You may even feel a sense of opening in a physical manner, as if a book or an eye is slowly opening in that region in your head. Helpful Techniques Once you've located and started to be aware of your third eye, there are a few tricks you can incorporate into your meditation to help. One of these is to visualize the third-eye symbol or keep a drawing of it nearby. Symbols can have profound psychic strength, especially when they're as old and recognized as this one. There are several gems that are thought to be helpful for strengthening clairvoyance as well, including tiger's eye, amethyst and red agate. Hold a piece of one of these while meditating, keep it nearby, or press it to the center of your forehead. You may also keep indigo-colored objects nearby while meditating, or burn a candle of this color.

I can already feel my third eye and have felt the openness. So do I go on to the next steps. I also use a pendulum to check to see if any art imbalanced. My pendulum is jasper, with a moonstone. What do you think of moving on with my third eye training?
